Enjoy a relaxed eco-holiday in Weegena, Tasmania, amongst the rolling hills of the mighty Mersey River, where you can find Elvenhome. Hand built and cultivated for over 20 years, we are a bio-dynamic farm employing permaculture design principles in both house and gardens. Nestled into native bushland, the pre-existing clearing of five acres has been developed into orchards, kitchen gardens, animal runs and structures for home and visitor accommodation.
The entire property is solar powered making full use of the sun's free energy. Extensive water harvesting includes large rainwater storage tanks and a spring fed dam, which supplies all water needs, composting toilets further reduce water consumption. The structures are built with local, recycled and sustainably resourced building materials.
A substantial orchard of fruits, nuts and berries along with the vegetable garden, milking goats and laying hens provide the family home and farm stay accommodation with plentiful supplies of produce year round.
Elvenhome has been host to WWOOFers (Willing Workers On Organic Farms) for over ten years which brings a diversity of talented and culturally diverse peoples to live and work on the farm.
Elvenhome farm showcases a diversity of environmentally sustainable living. The energy efficient home and cottage are a living example of sustainability in the 21st century. It is a gem in the heart of Tasmania, located close to the township of Deloraine and only 30 minutes from Devonport. In 2010 Elvenhome will feature as one of Tasmania's sustainable homes at the Sustainable House Day organised by ANZUS, Australia and New Zealand Solar Society.
